There should be more boards, including Tutorial boards (where could users post tutorials like Hime-sama did).
Also, maybe Suggestion board, where I would write this topic in?

Suggestions for new boards and other forum configurations are always welcome - maybe we can do them all in this thread in the future?

I think suggestions can go here in Community Discussion, though one big thread for them might be a good idea (a sticky, maybe?). Or, we can let individual questions be in their own threads, like this thread for suggesting new boards etc.

Tutorials probably fit into the Development Discussion, after all, they are to help developers with their efforts, and probably often by developers as well. Unless they fill up the whole board, which probably is not happening anytime soon, they can probably be where they are now.

One thing we have been wondering about is whether or not we need some kind of a general discussion place in which people can discuss offtopic subjects like gaming or visual novels not released on the forums. For now the idea of the administration is that we have the IRC channel (#teacup on freenode) for this, as we wish to keep the boards themselves clean, on-topic and effective. For VN-making more than socialising, sort of. Please let us know if anyone has a different opinion or idea on this: the boards are for their members, after all - if people see that IRC is too difficult or fleeting, we may consider making a separate board for it.

In my experience, having an offtopic subforum works wonders for preventing offtopic posts in the other subforums.

Also, hello, good to be here.

Greetings and welcome to the forums, Tsundere Lightning. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here.

I support having an off-topic board too. Frankly because I like getting to talk about random things like manga/anime/video games and having the ability to return to that same conversation later, as Vatina said in the chat.

Also, Hime suggested we call it the "Tea Room/Table," (if we do decide to have it) which seems appropriate given that this is "The Teacup."

Well, I gather my courage for suggestions:

1. Offtopic:

How about naming it the "Tea Lounge"? That sounds seriously cosy. Maybe it could be a child board of the community discussion, as it wil not discuss organizational topics.

2. BTW:
Also, I'd say have only one BTW thread (perhaps with a neatly organized first post), where all releases are announced (not 1 thread per issue), could be done by renaming the current BTW topic. Reason: there is not much comments and we could also use a the same topic to discuss BTW itself, especially topics for upcoming issues. Oh, and the image in that thread is quite big, a much smaller preview would be better I think.

3. This thread / suggestions:

Maybe the thread could be renamed to "Forum suggestions" or something like that. The idea of having multiple threads for each suggestion is probably too much at this time - I'd leave it in one central place, and when it gets too much, then split it into sub-threads. Though I don't really think there will be so many aspects that they'd need their own sections anytime soon.

Hello, I'm new here and I decided to drop by and say Hi to everyone here. About the new tutorial threads, I was thinking about making a thread that was sort of like a writing workshop, with like tips and links to help people improve there righting skills. That is if anyone else thinks that that is a good idea.

Welcome aboard, we hope you will enjoy your stay! :) Contributions by members will be appreciated, and the writing workshop sounds like a really good idea to me. I will look forward to seeing it.

Also, I like your personal text and signature a lot.

Welcome, Midnighticequeen! Yes, feel free to start up your workshop :)

As for mikey, I pretty much agree with everything. Seems logical enough since as mentioned, this place isn't really that big yet.

I think all of Mikey's suggestions were pretty good because they all sound very logical to me and the 'Tea Lounge' does sound very comfortable and cozy.  :)

Hime, I'm glad you like my signature :D It's a personal motto in life that I'm going to use to keep me moving forward instead of looking back. Thank you guys for the encouragement and welcome, hope you find the Writing thread I start useful.  :)

After discussing it with our esteemed board of directors, The Teacup is proud to present the fruits of our collective efforts. Yes, I said OUR collective efforts. This includes you, fellow teacup member and/or lurker.

We proudly present: The Tea Lounge

Sit back, relax, and talk about various topics with your peers from The Teacup community.

Ahem... okay, pretentious propaganda aside. We talked it over quite briefly in the chat and have decided to add this new board for off-topic talk. Global guidelines still apply as well as specific ones found in the sticky post in the board.

I've noticed that some of the sections in the forums are a bit confusing and often have double entries - there are several topics for the VN Festival 2010, a few release lists, and so on. Maybe it would be a good idea to consolidate this a little.

What I would propose is to acknowledge the existence of the Events, and make one thread that links to the threads and information abuot all of them (the discussions, the suggestions, the releases), maintained by the joint admin account (Ruler).

Then, I would rename existing topics by adding "Teacup Event #?" so that's it's easily identifiable.

For some other day there would be the discussion about BTW and essay topics. So anyway, my suggestions would be:

in Completed Visual Novels

Listing of all community event releases
- move to Community Discussion
- pin

in Community Discussion

BTW #10 - Visual Novel Developers - open discussion thread -
- unpin

The Teacup VN Festival 2010
- unpin
- rename to Teacup Event #1: The Teacup VN Festival 2010 [releases]

Writing Workshop: Discussion
- rename to Teacup Event #2: Writing Workshop: Discussion

Writing Workshop
- rename to Teacup Event #2: Writing Workshop

Planning and suggestions: The Teacup Visual Novel Festival 2011
- rename to Planning and suggestions: Teacup events

Forum Suggestions
- pin

Official Baka-Trio Webzine (BTW) Releases Thread
- update with all issues :)

-------------

Then, after moving into the Community section, as suggested above, the next step would be to transform this thread:
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=33.0 (Listing of all community event releases) into "Community events"
maintained by Ruler, where all the following info would be found:

Planning and suggestion for future events:
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=52.0

Event #1: The Teacup VN Festival 2010

Release list:
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=29.0

Event #2: Writing workshop

Working topic:
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=53.0

Event / post-event discussion
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=54.0

Event #3: Freshly brewed tea-m

Event discussion:
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=66.0

Post-event discussion
http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=275.0

Release list:
(directly in this topic)

----------------

Anyway, those would be my suggestions, feel free to bring in more ideas/simplifications, basically (1.) trying to establish an overview of the topics related to the events (no rigid structure there because different events may need different types of topics, just to have one topic where all topics belonging to one event are collected) and also (2.) trying to remove the duplicate information, as well as (3.) do not burden the Completed VNs section with Event overviews and lists.

Let me know what you think, I'd be happy if we found some way of making it less confusing, when I posted our Event #3 release, I was really hesitant as to what and where to post and whether to make a separate topic or not... so it's a good idea in my opinion to think about some structure to this.
