Title: Teacup Event #4: The Teacup Visual Novel Festival 2011 (Recruitment)
Post by: Ruler on December 09, 2010, 04:03:51 pm
Last year, The Teacup Visual Novel 2010 (http://teacup.lunaen.com/index.php?topic=29.0) marked the beginning of what has become The Teacup’s trademark of being an event-based community. Due to the short span of time we had to work with in order to organize the event last year, we kept the details of the event a secret from the public and limited to only the founding members of The Teacup until release month.

This year, we’re starting the preparations for the festival early and making it open to all interested visual novel creators.

The rules of the festival are very simple. Simply indicate your desire to enter your game into the 2011 festival inside this thread. We’re open for entries until one month before the festival (the 1st of July). Basically, the only rule of the festival is that you agree to release your game sometime during the festival month along with the other participants. Please back out at least a week or two before release month if you feel that you can't make it.

The festival will feature one game every day starting from release month and up (the 1st of August, the 2nd of August and so on). All entries must be complete or at least nearly complete as soon as the month before release month arrives in order to give us enough time to decide on the order in which the games will be released.

All entries are welcome at this point. Your game could be a work-in-progress, a game idea that you are planning to work on, or a completed but still unreleased game. Think of the Teacup Visual Novel Festival 2011 as a motivation to get a jump start on some of your unfinished projects, or to start working on a new game.

The Festival is now officially open. Interested applicants may apply here or you can PM one of the mods/admins if you want to enter in secret.

The release month is August.

Regarding the release month, if April is not decided on yet, does that mean that it's March that's being considered, or is it more May?

The time will be discussed in the next administrative gathering. I doubt anyone is thinking of March, though; if the month is changed, it'll change towards summer.

The festival release month has been decided on; it is May 2011, so we will be accepting entries (in this thread and in PMs to us admins) until the beginning of April.

Feel free to use this thread to announce and brainstorm projects for Event #4. We wish good luck to all participants!

Alright, I would participate with one small VN project, for starters, based on my themes this one will be "death".

So far, I have the idea, the photographs and it should be no more than two weeks' work once I get to it, however at the moment I'm quite busy with my current project - but there's bound to be some down time and this "death" story I wanted to make for quite some time. It should be similar in style and atmosphere to Old-timer or The Morane Crisis.

Since December there has been no activity here, so... does anyone have a project for this event? I am asking, because it's about the time I would need to start working - which I don't really want to anymore, to be honest, as I'm still quite well occupied with my main project and I'd like to focus on that while the momentum is there. I'm also thinking of making the Event #4 VN at some other time entirely, because of what I'd like to put in and how that will relate to the main project. So anyway, I'd just like to know what the status of Event #4 is - who is participating, how far along are you and when exactly the deadline for the finished games is (I assume it's 30.4?), I'd like to see how I can fit in there.

I won't speak for the others, but I'd like to confirm that I have no entry for this event ATM mostly due to certain plans IRL. I won't rule out the possibility that I might still be able to make a short entry, though.

I and number473 are preparing a project for the festival, but I wouldn't be against changing the schedule if a lot of people here feel that May is too soon. Actually, later in the summer (June, July, August?) would be better for me in terms of real life circumstances.

As we have discussed in private last night, it would probably be best to move this event to August for various reasons, not the least of which is the apparent lack of participants for April. I would like some confirmation from the other members of this forum if this decision still stands.

the apparent lack of participants for August.
I think you either mean the lack or participants for May or the abundance of participants for August there...

In any case, I'm okay with the shift of schedule - it'll mean I'll be able to contribute more both as an admin and a creator, since May is a very busy month for me.

I edited the first post of the thread to reflect the changes.

I believe I'll enter too, at least I'll do my best to make. Already looking forward to the Hime/number473 project too!

A little update: I'm done with my game for the festival. How is everyone else doing? Here's a little preview of my project:

Sign me up for a solo entry.  I'll probably start working on it only June-July.  I'll need it to let off some creative steam since I've been hitting the Law of Diminishing Returns lately (but I don't regret it since it was my original intention to see when exactly I'll hit that realization).  I apologize for my recent behavior which may have offended people.

I have finished a rough version (all graphics, all text, all music) of my entry called "Anthridercynantide". It still needs editing, but this should not be a problem until August. Even in this state it would be fine to release. It's a short work, about 20 minutes of play, and the theme is, as stated in one of the previous posts, "death". Looking forward to putting on the finishing touches at some point, and then to the August releases. Special thank you to the mysterious person who made the sprites.

Good to see people are making progress - and a new participant too :)

I still hope to be able to submit a game too... it's not 100% certain that I will, though. My writer for this project is a little hard to persuade sometimes.

*Walks off to kick him into gear*

After much personal deliberation, I am considering joining the festival.

My entry will be based on my experiences on a play-by-post game in another forum, and I am currently writing the script for it.

I expect the script to be finished by next week, and by then I will find a suitable artist.

What Visual Novel Festival isn't complete without some ERO? Indeed, ero is a necessary and integral part of life, the universe and everything else! Therefore it only makes sense to include some ero in this festival, so we, Sore Hand Games, bravely volunteer our skills and effort into making a small eroge for this festival!

just a very small one, don't get your hopes up.

Now that I'm done with the script, I am now looking for an artist who will do the seven event CG's in my project. I've been looking for one for two week now, but I reaped nothing.

To everyone, it's less than a month before August, so I think it's time to start organizing things for the actual festival. Specifically, the day of each particular release. I personally have two games lined up and ready and I don't really care which day they will be released on. So, let's make it simple. Stake your claim as to which day you want. I'll go with a 7-day scheme since I didn't try to take count. Feel free to copy the information below and add yourself to the list.

The releases start August 1, so the days would correspond to the calendar date. August 1, 2 and so on.

Day 1
Day 2 SYTYWTMAVN - lordcloudx
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5 The Affair - lorcloudx
Day 6
Day 7

I just chose some random days for the sake of making a choice. I'm actually pretty open to move my games to different days if someone else wants Days 2 and 5, specifically.

I have awesome news! My writer just sent me the story today, so I just need to do a little art and put things together. Which means I can finally say that I'll have an entry for the festival too! :D

I don't know if anyone has a story that fits particularly well for the first day? Otherwise I don't mind taking that spot. Feel free to shift around though, as I don't really mind whatever day mine is on either.

I just finished submitting my stuff to upload.com

Anyone wanna do the logo template for the festival this year?
edit: since it's pretty near release date, here's a template that we can all use if no one else wants to come up with a better design.

(http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/1781/vnfestivaltemplate.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/vnfestivaltemplate.png/)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

It's a transparent PNG, so save it and you can edit in your game's title and other things into it.

I will have another entry, I added it to the lineup.

Day 1 - The Dare (Vatina)
Day 2 - SYTYWTMAVN (lordcloudx)
Day 3 - Anthridercynantide (ATP Projects)
Day 4 - Coccinea (MoonlightBomber)
Day 5 - The Affair (lordcloudx)
Day 6 - Umeda Sky (ATP Projects)

I will release the games on my site and create a topic (here) on their respective dates - is there something else I should do? If there is, and you need something for the organization, like a screenshot or synopsis in advance, let me know. Otherwise, I am just looking forward to next Monday.

Mikey, it is recommended that you make a banner based on the template cloudy posted earlier. We will probably follow last year's format with the threads, so the thread names should be formatted as "[Name goes here]- The Teacup VN Festival 2011 Day [number]". We will also post an entry per game in an official thread, but that's for us admins to worry about. :P

Last year, the threads were formatted as follows:
[Banner]
Genre: [Fill in]
Description:
[In quotes, fill in]
Screenshots:
[Go here]
Download:
[Download links]

Of course, you could add more stuff at the bottom if you wish to comment on your work more.

--

On another note, I and number473 will have to withdraw our entry due to my HDD failing us. Let's hope the files can be recovered, even though we won't make it in time for the festival... :(

Even if not for the festival, I'd still love to read the novel you two made :)

Just wanted to mention, as I offered Cloudy the opportunity earlier after the small download debacle at LSF --

bishojo.tk is willing to host/mirror any of the Teacup Festival games for this year if you require it. I've seen quite a number of URLs with common upload sites in them, and felt compelled to offer up some space if you want something a little more reliable.

( That is, if uploading several new games at once doesn't completely stress our allotted bandwidth. We haven't had any trouble yet, and we still get a number of downloads of older games, but this'll be the first opportunity we've had to put up many games all at once -- Just giving you fair warning... )

If interested, PM me or post in this thread, and I'll get to it as soon as I see it. I do ask for a bit of patience, as I'm really busy as of late, but I can promise I'll have it uploaded within 24 hours.

And of course I can host the festival games too on lunaen.com and I'm not limited by bandwidth. My only limit is free space on the hosting and I still have plenty of that. So if you are interested you can PM me too.

Good to see another festival come nicely to an end ^^
Although I disappeared shortly after presenting my own title, so I have only read through a couple of them so far. Will make sure to check the rest out the next couple of days, and hopefully give comments as well.

So far it seems like some real gems have been put out, not just quickly churned-out "might-as-well" stories. Good to see.

Will of course also gladly read those later who didn't make it in time for the festival :)
